My pocket camera, a Canon PowerShot S70, is really a little too big for day-to-day use. It's a hefty, solid beast and has done sterling service since [livejournal.com profile] marypcb bought it for me in Wellington on the New Zealand leg of our honeymoon. More than four years later it's still taking excellent photographs - it just doesn't fit in a pocket.

Its replacement arrived at Christmas, courtesy of Mary, and is about a third of the size, in the shape of a tiny little Nikon Coolpix S550. The size belies the power - this is a 10 Mpixel camera with 5x optical zoom. Picture quality is excellent, and it takes SDHC cards for plenty of storage. The large screen on the back makes up for the lack of an optical viewfinder, and gives you a good idea of what image you're going to end up with.

One thing to note is that it's not a manual camera, but then for that I have the DSLR. This is most definitely a pocket point-and-shoot camera, just one with better than average optics and a good set of presets.

Looks like I've been assimilated into the Nikonborg...

Pop along to the Daz web site and download Bryce 5.0 from the link there. Macintosh and Windows versions are available...

It may not be the latest version, but it's still one of the best landscape generating and rendering tools around...

[Update from[personal profile] autopope: "Does not run under Mac OS/X 10.4 and above".]
