Peter Saville, who designed many of Factory Records' sleeves, has put several of his classic fonts online, for free.

Download them here.

They include several of my favourite New Order fonts...

I find myself working with a lot of ISO files these days. It's an easy way for software companies to ship betas and trial code. Most of the time, though, I don't want to burn the disks to install the software. ISOs are disk images, and there are software tools to mount them as virtual drives on your PC.

Microsoft's free tool is good, as is Daemon Tools. But they don't work on Vista.

Then I came across Virtual CloneDrive. It's small, free, and works on pretty much every Windows box and version I've tried it on - including Windows Vista RC1.

Well worth downloading.

I'm still not sure what it is with the sheep...

Thomas Dolby has posted a new track online, performed at the TED conference last year.
One of the presenters this year was Peter Gabriel, who was there to talk about a cause that’s dear to his heart. I’d met Peter before and found him very affable, so I took the liberty of sampling one of his most famous tunes and mashing it up with a new piece of my own. The session was entitled ‘The World Flattens’ so I triggered some sound bytes from my own Flat Earth Lecture. I think Peter was sitting in the front row when I played it. As TED is for a good cause I’m sure Peter won’t mind if I put a recording of my performance up online! Download it, link to it if you like, but please don’t recirculate it without asking me.
Good stuff.

[Link to the track on his blog entry].

Today's download of the day is something I've been looking for for a long time now.

Now I can make sure I don't get blasted out of my chair by over-loud Flash movies and games with FlashMute (spotted on many many sites).
FlashMute is a tool which allows you to mute/unmute Flash Movies loaded in a browser exclusively, or alternatively all sounds produced by the browser.
Now that's what I call useful!

Salon has made all 11 CDs of The Caedmon Collection of Dylan Thomas reading his poems available as a Premium Subscriber download - which means that if you watch an advert to get a Salon Sitepass, you can download to your heart's content...

There's even an original cast "Under Milk Wood".
The collection includes Thomas' poems "Fern Hill" and "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night"; prose pieces such as "Adventures in the Skin Trade" and "Quite Early One Morning"; and his final work, the play "Under Milk Wood." The recording of "Under Milk Wood" included here is the only one in existence with Dylan Thomas in the cast. It owes its remarkable existence to the serendipitous placement of a microphone at center stage minutes before the curtain was raised.

A while back I blogged the rather lovely new fonts that Microsoft had commissioned for the then Longhorn.

Someone has extracted the font files from the Windows Vista beta and zipped them up...

The BBC has put every episode of the Sky at Night since December 2001 online.

Now that's what I call nifty.

Here's a site full of links to free games, ready for download: Liberated Games.

There are 3D first-person shooters, shoot'em ups, role-playing adventure games, puzzles, and real time strategies. In fact, there's something for everyone (yes, even Mac OS folk) - even for the folk who want source code!

Some of the games are aborted commercial releases that have never been published in any other form...
