That sounds interesting. Is it a good idea to read Revelation Space first?

Yes, I'd recommend reading it first. While Alastair says Redemption Ark can be read on its own, there's enough in it that refers back to Revelation Space that you're going to want to read it anyway!

There are also some scenes that link to events in Chasm City, but reading that's not so important...
