Rock'n'Roll Dreaming

It looks like this year is my year for seeing bands I'd always wished I'd seen.

To follow up two doses of Thomas Dolby, I've just booked tickets to go see the prog rock supergroup Asia at the Shepherds Bush Empire - and it's the original line up of John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Steve Howe and Geoff Downes.

w00t and all that.

Their eponymous first album was the first album I ever bought, back in Woolworth's in St Helier...

While far from the first album I bought, it was the first I bought after moving down from Newcastle to Reading.

Asia at Reunion Arena, my first rock show. That would be hum, 1980?

Is he the same one that did Video Killed the Radio Star?

Yes, him and Trevor Horn. They both later joined Yes, then...well, eventually we got Asia.

Yup.

At least in its second incarnation when it was semi-covered by the Buggles. Most people forget that it was originally written for Bruce Wooley's band of ex-BBC folk, The Camera Club.

The keyboard for The Camera Club was a rather young Thomas Dolby.

Don't forget Genesis (in the rump Banks/Rutherford/Collins pop version) in 07.

Ah, but I've already seen them at least twice. On the Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance tours...

So they don't count.
