One of my favourite 419 scambaitings yet!

In this twist on the familiar tale, a 419 scammer ends up carving Creature Comforts characters and a Commodore 64 for the man he planned to scam - and sent them to the UK!

More "conversations" with the scammers here.

Interestingly, I found myself almost feeling sorry for the scammer!
the effort he (or someone) put into the carvings.

Now, wonder if I could get him to do me a C64 wooden carving. And then put some kind of capacitive detector on the keys, linked to a miniITX running a C=64 emulator...

What you want is one of these. They can be hacked to boot up as a C64 and have pads on the PCB to add ports for the disk drive, the cassette player and a keyboard...

"I found myself almost feeling sorry for the scammer!"

likewise. Whilst it might well have been the case that the oiginal contact was a scam the carvings stuff felt almost like entrapment ...

Indeed. I wonder, now, just how much the people who produce the various African carvings we see in shops here actually get. Okay, so they're transported in bulk rather than one by one, but the prices are usually less than that guy was paying in courier charges. Presumably it was only worth their while because they thought they'd a chance at the big money.

I wonder if the sculptor got paid for his work.

he did; the scambaiter checked. the scammer makes - ooh - 45k a month out of people he scams. turnabout is fair play?
