...the big Starbucks on the corner of Tottenham Court Road and New Oxford Street now has desks with power. I'm currently sat there in a gap between meetings, writing my monthly column.

(The wifi is still pay for, but at least you won't chew batteries).

Can you not go to the Apple store?

Does the Apple Store do coffee? Bet it doesn't do cake!
Besides. How can they call it a 'Genius Bar' when it has no beer?

No power, wrong end of Oxford St. Also using a PC in the AppleStore is coming it a bit much, frankly :-)

Actually I think sitting in there working for 3 hours would be more of a problem!

(I've seen several people sat in the cinema section with non-Apple machines leeching the wifi...)

How much is wifi in these places?

And why don't hotels have free WiFi in the rooms, the moneygrubbing bastards? Actually I think I've just answered my own question.

What gets my goat is that the cheaper the hotel, the more likely it is to have free wifi.

http://www.tmobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=business_im_hs_ctl&tab=cost for Tmobile's pricing. Starts at £5 for an hour and goes down from there the longer chunk of time you buy.

It's a little cheaper if you are a Tmobile customer as you can have the charges added to your bill. it's 75p per 10 minutes, which works out at £4.50 an hour but you only get billed in the 10 minute chunks.

Basically all of these hotspots are a complete rip-off.
