London, San Francisco and points west

Well, we made it safely across, despite the air rage incident in another cabin and the arrival of immigration on the plane to tale someone off in handcuffs... It would make a better story if we actually knew what had gone on, rather than guessing from overhearing the flight attendants.

Rick picked us up at the airport, and drove us into the city. We're staying for the first few nights in his condo. It's a lovely place, just a few blocks from Market and Castro. We walked down to Castro last night, popping into shops along the way to buy coffee for this morning, and stopping in a lovely little bar in a greenhouse which stocked one of my favourite northern California microbrews, Blue Heron. Then on to Chows for dinner, which was excellent - good, solid food and the usual US style portions. [livejournal.com profile] marypcb had a really nice looking aubergine parmegiano.

Early to bed, and not so early to rise. We're off up to the wine country today. And I've already seen a hummingbird...

No! But there is a Burrito place in Palo Alto that completely rocks and the restored cinema on the main drag usually plays classics from the 40s and 50s... Palo Alto is nice a bit yuppified in the 90s and probably still has thast vibe but there's lots to look at. There's Watercourse way in Palo Alto and of course the big deep space dish there... and a whole slew of great places to visit. Good Mac store there and near Stanford there's a Bookshop I must visit. Waah! I want an iBook... oh well when I have money again...

Oh Aardvark books off of Market a couple of blocks down from Castro... I want to pop in there.. yeah yeah yeah.
