Well, we made it safely across, despite the air rage incident in another cabin and the arrival of immigration on the plane to tale someone off in handcuffs... It would make a better story if we actually knew what had gone on, rather than guessing from overhearing the flight attendants.

Rick picked us up at the airport, and drove us into the city. We're staying for the first few nights in his condo. It's a lovely place, just a few blocks from Market and Castro. We walked down to Castro last night, popping into shops along the way to buy coffee for this morning, and stopping in a lovely little bar in a greenhouse which stocked one of my favourite northern California microbrews, Blue Heron. Then on to Chows for dinner, which was excellent - good, solid food and the usual US style portions. [livejournal.com profile] marypcb had a really nice looking aubergine parmegiano.

Early to bed, and not so early to rise. We're off up to the wine country today. And I've already seen a hummingbird...

Feorag and I are setting out on Wednesday at zero-dark o'clock, and arrive SFO around lunchtime. So we may see you as early as Wednesday evening.

You still hiring a car? Interested in a trip to Fry's on Monday or Tuesday?

(NB: my normal email may be down on the 3rd for a while; if in doubt, I've got Parlance working, so try cstross (at) cix.)

Very Cool! I shall be out there on Friday details with my lj at [livejournal.com profile] tanais I'm not going to WorldCon/ConJose but to see Friends and to mercilessly rib zen@fish.com (who apparently is a finalist in the World Technology Awards... [snigger]... Meet friends and large it up...

The Frys you mention is this the one in SunnyVale (near Apple HQ any my old offices at Sun?) The one made to look like an Aztec temple? That's great fun and a real temple to tech -- but you folks may like to take in a look at Weird Stuff as well as its in the same neck of the wood but its nerdier, scummier and funner... Old Sun Sparcs.. I still hanker for one of those Sun Sparc 10 Voyager luggables to sit by the side of the bed to sit next to ther bakelite phone... and there's a pretty good Vietnamese nearby too -- if you like Vietnamese. I need to get a ThinkPad Hard Drive and a ThinkPad PSU anyway and maybe some kinda Mac-happy tape backup system.

My mobile is in my LJ call me (actually Charlie I don't have any number for you after I lost my Mobile Phone's data) so SMS your Mobile @ me if you want to meet up. Love to see you and Feorag.

xx

No! But there is a Burrito place in Palo Alto that completely rocks and the restored cinema on the main drag usually plays classics from the 40s and 50s... Palo Alto is nice a bit yuppified in the 90s and probably still has thast vibe but there's lots to look at. There's Watercourse way in Palo Alto and of course the big deep space dish there... and a whole slew of great places to visit. Good Mac store there and near Stanford there's a Bookshop I must visit. Waah! I want an iBook... oh well when I have money again...

Oh Aardvark books off of Market a couple of blocks down from Castro... I want to pop in there.. yeah yeah yeah.

Whatever the air rage incident was, it wasn't serious enough to show up in any of the usual news sources.
