Miyazaki Street Art

An urban art project in Spain is stencilling the Kodama tree spirits from Mononoke Hime across Malaga.

It's an interesting comparison.

The Kodama are one of the saddest things in Mononoke Hime, as they slowly fade away as the trees fall, and the humans move into the forest.

One of my favourite films.

I wish the arty folk would take more care not to let the spray paint drip like that. That looks creepy, not cute.

Black teardrops from the eyes and black "blood" dripping from the mouth, they look like Whitby Kodama.

I don't think the urban art people intended the figures to look at all different from the anime. That dripping looks like an artifact of sloppy spraying to me, especially since there are drips coming off the "237" as well.

Those things always remind me of the aborted foetus in the issue of Sandman when the dead come back to public school.
