London by night

It's a hot summer in London at the moment, grey humid skies in the mornings, that break by lunchtime and then clear for the rest of the day. While [livejournal.com profile] hawkida may have the thunderstorms we're hoping for here, there's no sign of them yet. And I have another day out at Bromley in a very very hot little room full of computers, consultants and clients.

About a week ago, on a glorious evening, I was walking back across the new Hungerford footbridge, and had the digicam in my pocket. The city was bright lights all aound me, and even though it was nearly two hours since sunset there was still a bright glow in the western sky.

So I decided to try an experiment - a five shot panorama that I would stitch back together on the PC using some of the bundled software. To be honest, I'm actually quite impressed with the results. As it's Canon's software it knows just what the camera can do, and puts together a very nice image.

Very nice ... I'm in the middle of deciding whether to buy a 5Mp camera (how often would I use the top resolution? On the other hand it will take a microdrive ...) Nikon Coolpix 5000.

Lots of stuff I could write here about digital cameras, but I'm too apathetic this morning, so I'll merely say that it's a shame that you had those people wandering along the walkway by the bridge (but I am impressed by the Hungerford bridge walkway redesign, I've been back watching it develop every few months over the last year or so and it's turned out very pretty ...)

Currently I'm using a 4MPixel Canon S40. Works well, and is tough enough to survive being caried around a lot.

I acually liked the people - I always like motion blur in long exposures, and the feel of people moving in a picture is something I enjoy seeing. It makes me feel all National Geographic for some reason or other...

I'm currently using a Canon Powershot S40, with an IBM Microdrive in lieu of a CF card. It's not particularly big, quite tough and has a lot of really neat features, most of which I haven't used yet...

Very nice pic. Must try some of this myself.
