Bah. Getting above the atmosphere is the easy bit. Getting above the atmosphere with enough fuel to achieve orbit is much harder.

Today's acheivement puts us on a par with Alan Shepherd in 1961. I want to be on a par with John Glenn in 1962.

The important part is that this is a few guys and a few million dollars, not the entire US government. Shows that commercial space-travel can be made to work.

It is a good achievement for private enterprise, demonstrating a sleek looking vehicle can accomplish something that was done 40 years ago. I do think the space elevator and space faring zeppelin might end up achieving something more practical while advancing the state of the art.
