...and brought back a fish.

It's a little, err, dead. About 50 million years dead...

fossil fish

(Not a photograph - I actually stuck it on the bed of the scanner and I was quite surprise how well it came out!)

It's a nice fish.

Do you know what species?

I have one much like it, though a different skull morphology. I bought mine at Dinosaur Ridge in Colorado. Where'd you get yours?

That is a most excellent fossil fish. I don't know enough about fish fossils to even guess what it might be, but a lot of this stuff comes from a jurassic seabed range in Brazil. I have one, which is somewhat incomplete, but it's interesting because it's preserved in 3D, and you can even see some of the internal structure.

We saw one like this at the UTexas-Austin Museum. But it's a little bigger. After all, this is Texas.
A Big Fossil Fish

you saw a pale rider on a pale fish?

Note; Simon leaves out the argument where my mum wanted to buy it for him ;-)
