Every morning, 6.55 am, as soon as the alarm goes off, I have all four cats trying to turf me out of bed.

As for what's in dried cat food, I have no idea. Based on evidence however, I'd say it's at least part speed.

Sekhmet used to wake me up in the nicest way she could imagine, by curling up around my head and giving me a scalp massage and a good wash, purring ecstatically the whole time. It was very difficult to take exception to being so blatantly flattered by a feline love-sponge, even though her real motive revolved around the food bowl and made itself perfectly clear the moment I was on my feet. (She was a creepily smart cat in some ways.)
The Two Fat Ladies, in contrast, have obviously never gone short of food in their lives. They just sniff with mild disinterest when I put the food out. On the other hand, they do tend to drape themselves across my legs in the morning, and as they're roughly the same size as adult Maine Coons ...
