Spring has started to arrive in London, at long last.

So what is a south-west Londoner to do on a sunny March afternoon? Why, they go to Richmond Park for a walk around the ponds.

We weren't the only transplanted Londoners there, as the feral parakeets were taking the opportunity to noisily begin their mating season. I took a photograph of a pair necking in a tree as we walked through a small wood near Pen Ponds.

A Kiss Too Far?

There's something alien about seeing a parrot in London, but they're certainly colourful.

Great shots - and v sweet.
The critters ate getting frisky here, too - way ahead of schedule. I haven't seen our neighborhood parrots yet, but the native birds are singing up a storm.

Those look more like Australian green parrots rather than parakeets. Mum's parakeet tied the other week after a few weeks of illness after a stroke (we think).

They're ring-necked parakeets (also known as rose-ringed parakeets), from India. The story is that they're descended from Jimmi Hendrix's, released after he died - and there are over 30 thousand of them across London...

Here are a couple of good links about them!
