Two images from our last flight home.

The first is familiar, as the heavy 747 climbs out out of SFO, and VS20 makes that tight bank around the Golden Gate and over Marin on its way east. It was surprisingly clear last Monday when we headed home after out last US trip. The city by the bay was clear and white, and the red bridge drew a line across the narrow green entrance to the Bay. In the distance San Mateo, and the south Bay, sheltered between its mountain ranges.

The City and the Gate

The second less so, with snow blanketing the high desert to the east of the Sierras. The circle of Mono Lake was blue in the white, and the lines of CA395 laid out stark on the plain below.IN the distance the edge of Yosemite, and the long run south to LA.

i can see my house from here...

whenever i return to SF from somewhere north or west, i love that we fly directly over twin peaks and i can see my house down there. the plane from hong kong flies past my bedroom window at 8 every night, and i remember being on it coming back from bali a few years ago, and how it felt to be HOME.
