Time for another shot from Piedras Blancas.

The most noticeable feature of the bull Elephant Seals are their noses.

These aren't ordinary noses, they're huge flexible probosci, that inflate to add resonance the bulls' roaring calls. They roll up and flop around, like a big dog's tongue. You know when a bull is about to bellow, as he raises up his head, and starts to inflate his nose. Then he honks, his hooter hooting across the wide sandy beach.
