Driving between Las Vegas and the Bay Area we took a different route from our usual Las Vegas - Mojave - Paso Robles - San Jose. This time we took a route that went through the heart of Death Valley, before turning up the east side of the Sierras and exploring Mono Lake. It turned out to be well worth the drive, as Death Valley was covered in bright yellow flowers, after a winter with plenty of rain.
We pulled over somewhere near Furnace Springs, where a host of flowers filled the rocky desert floor.

A brief moment of life in the dry deep lands.
