This is rather neat: a prototype "Noise Shirt", from the Tampere University Of Technology in Finland.

Washable and wearable electronics are embedded in a T-shirt, while a wireless induction loop in a hanger makes sure that everything is charged up for the day. The prototype shirt is fairly simple, monitoring ambient noise levels, and lighting an LED VU-meter on its chest panel.

...that measures the surrounding environments noise level and displays it as a vertical 5 step equalizer bar with the LEDs. Each LED marks a rise above a certain decibel level. The three lower LEDs go from 65dB to 84dB. The top two LEDs mark a noise level exceeding 85dB and 100dB. Continuous exposure exceeding 85dB is the limit set by the European Union for recommended use of hearing protection.

It's easy to imagine this built into work coats or boiler suits for use in hazardous environments.



Not too far from the active display shirts marypcb and I have been imagining for some time now...
