Apparently the real reason why there isn't any WiFi at the RNC isn't security, or the threat of Democratic crackers. It's an age old problem: the RNC is full of lusers, and the company that was handling technology for the event didn't want to have to cope with the tech support from conventioneers who couldn't read simple log-on instructions...

"If people have trouble with wireless, what's the first thing they say?" said David Shatzkes, whose company is managing the convention's technology operations. "They say, 'There's something wrong with the network.' Those are the words we absolutely do not want to hear."

So then we had a BBQ, and I was sitting outside with my neighbors, and it had just gotten dark, and we had just gotten drunk, so it seemed like the perfect time to bust it out. It was, to say the least, a crowd pleaser. We shot the Jasper laser so far down the street we could barely see its spot (it grows slightly the farther away it is, so it always appears to be roughly the same size). In fact, using my girlfriend's eyes as a control, I was able to confirm that the Jasper laser actually shines farther than I have the ability to perceive green spots, which means the laser also serves as a handy way to determine if you need new glasses or not.

I brought marypcb a reindeer skin rug at Stockholm Airport last week. It's really nice for wriggling toes - though the mogs seem a little confused by the big hairy thing on the office floor.
