Seems Wandsworth Council has done a deal with Parkmobile, to introduce a "pay by mobile" parking scheme in the streets round here. It all seems a little more hi-tech than I expected, as you need a transponder in the car to allow parking attendents to see if you're legally parked.
But basically all you need to do is park, and then make a phone call to register the zone you're parked in - and then it behaves just like a standard pay and display system. You do need to make another call to end the session - and the system will text you if you're running out of time...
It's an interesting idea, but I think a little too complex at the moment - it doesn't cope with visitors to the area...
