...bobbing across the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic oceans. And now finally set to make landfall in New England, after more than 10 years afloat...
A fascinating BBC news science article on how a lost and smashed container full of plastic ducks has led to a greater understanding of ocean currents. The little yellow beasties have given scientists something to track that's visible against the dark ocean waves. The main flock will arrive in New England, the turbulent oceans sent some as far south as Hawaii, while others are on their way to Europe.
But with around 10,000 containers lost at sea every year, who knows what more dangerous substances are drifting around out there...
Wind up plastic frogs?
Rubber snakes?
