Web kiosks that really connect...

Kingston town council is deploying web kiosks to give townsfolk access to services from the street. I had to use one recently, trying to find streetmaps to help me find a post office, but didn't get anywhere - the kiosk's site navigation model was a tad rough, and its taxonomy left much to be desired!

From the end of August things will be a little different with these kiosks, as the BBC reports. With a software upgrade they will be able to connect you directly to a person who can help you, using net telephony and council's existing helpline servide. It's an interesting use for VOIP, and puts advanced technology on the streets where it is needed.
