It took
300,000 years for the human race to accumulate
12 exabytes of information, where an exabyte is a billion gigabytes - 10
18 bytes. The
University of California in Berkley estimates that
250 megabytes of data are created each year for
each man, woman, and child on the planet - a further exabyte or so a year!
That was in 2000.
At this rate (taking into account growth rates), we will equal the amount of data produced sometime not long after 2005...
