I've decided to follow the lead of the Creative Commons movement and apply a Creative Commons licence to all the writing I do here. As someone who spends a portion of his professional life writing, I think its important that I do something to protect the work I do here, while at the same time protecting the rights of every one reading what I write. Creative Commons is a powerful, and open model, and one ideal for online writing in blogs and on web sites, where free access to content is crucial, but unauthorised reuse a problem...
So I've thought long and hard about this, ever since I first came across the Creative Commons concept, and eventually came to the conclusion that as soon as the licences were released I'd find an appropriate one for my online works, and start using it.
I've chosen a very simple concept, one based on two ideas: attribution and no derivation. It all boils down to a simple set of rules: "You can do what you like with what I write here, as long as (a) you always attribute it to me, and (b) as long as you don't change my words" - and yes, it does have a BSD sort of flavour to it!
